Altar of Chaos is a fortress that is capable of inflicting obscene amounts of damage, though there is a 10 second period in which the target can react. Placing the bomb teleports the Nether Bomb, which can be seen on the card itself (the "stick with an animal skull on it"). After placement, the bomb has 4000 hitpoints and can be repaired like any other building in case it is damaged. If the bomb isn't eliminated before time runs out, it detonates dealing the damage. Like many other Shadow cards, it damages friend and foe alike.

By default, the bomb deals respectable damage, and an insane potential for damage can be reached by sacrificing own creatures to the altar before a bomb is placed. Up to 8000 life points of own creatures can be installed. When upgraded and filled with souls, it can deal six times the stored amount, for a total of 57 000 hitpoints worth of damage. If successful, this is a huge amount of damage for the cost of 250 power plus the power used to summon sacrificed creatures. A new bomb can be placed after 30 seconds from placing the first one, and it costs no additional power. However, the life storage is reset, and new units must be sacrificed to reach the full damage potential again. To destroy an Orb you only need to do 3000 damage, which can be achieved by sacrificing only 300 life points to the Altar on U2 (250 on U3).

Being a fourth era card, Altar of Chaos is not used much in PvP, and is rarely seen even in PvE. It is a high-risk card as hostile NPC units are likely to attack the bomb unless something else attracts their attention, and it might get destroyed before the time is up. Thus strategic placement of the bomb is key to bringing out the rewarding damage-to-power efficiency of this card. Can be great fun at the end of a long 2v2 match though.

AbilityIcon Activatable Mass Destruction

Activate to place a Nether Bomb that explodes after 10 seconds dealing 1500 damage to hostile and friendly entities in a 25m radius around its target, up to 9000 in total. Only one bomb may be placed at a time. Cannot be disabled by spellblocking abilities.

AbilityIcon Passive Self-Abandonment

Own units may be sent into the Altar sacrifice them and store their life points. A maximum of 8000 life points can be stored. 300% of them will be dealt as additional damage as soon as the bomb explodes. Once the bomb has been placed no more units may be sacrificed.
